Candon City, aside from being the center of commerce and trade in southern Ilocos Sur, Mayor Ericson Singson said the city also has its Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Exhibitions (MICE) hub, so the said Sports Complex and Convention Center will be serve as its main site.

“This is a much awaited project for the benefit of our fellow Candonians and all over the province considering the magnitude and potential impact of the project,” said Mayor Singson.

He also stressed that the said sports and convention center will serve as one of the main magnates of the development and economic activity in the city’s by-pass road which is seen as the city’s next business and trade center.

“It will also have a major impact in helping us recover from the COVD-19 pandemic,” he added.

DPWH Ilocos Sur Second DEO assures that with the threat of COVID-19, workers are mandated to follow the construction safety guidelines for the implementation of Infrastructure projects.

All of the 120 workers and three Engineers who are in charge of the project are staying in a bunk house and they are not allowed to go to work if they are not wearing face masks and daily monitoring of their pre and post work health conditions are undertaken.

Adequate food, safe/potable drinking water, disinfectants, and hand soaps are also provided to its in – house personnel.

The Sports complex and convention center aims to motivate the younger generation to excel in sports and music and also invite investment in the city to increase its revenue.

The 5,000 capacity seat coliseum is also expected to host major sports events like out of town Philippine Basketball Association games, professional and amateur volleyball games, concerts, government and private companies’ events.
