Dear Senator Cynthia Villar,

Dear Senator Cynthia Villar,

Dear Senator Cynthia Villar,

Suicide should not be used as a joke or punchline.

"Those suffering from mental illness aren’t here to be a punchline. It may be an easy way to express frustration, disappointment, or embarrassment, but when these inappropriate “jokes” and phrases are thrown around, one forgets to consider who they might be affecting. Each person may be struggling with depression and fighting demons other people don’t even realize that they are dealing with, and no one wants to be the one that told the joke that tipped them over the edge. Words have power, so people must use them wisely and think before they speak." |
